Bouquet

Despite the fact that I'm not stereotypically a girl who's extremely fond of flowers, I always expected to receive my first bouquet of flowers in a romantic scenario, probably in cases if the person who was gifting them to me had forgotten our anniversary, or for ignoring tiny, little details like that to which I pay a lot of attention.
I had certainly not expected to get my first bouquet while I was fast asleep on a rainy afternoon, too lazy to get up when I was a few days shy of turning sixteen, and had no romantic admirer who would have thought of gifting me such a thoughtful present.
I remember my mother trying her level best to wake me up, but I grunted, because she had woken me up a mere half an hour ago, only for me to fall asleep again. She nudged me and said, "There's a gift for you!" I snorted in an extremely undignified and unladylike manner, and mumbled, "Psssshhh nice try but I'm going back to sleep."
She then pointed towards the shelf next to the bed and said, "Are you sure you don't want to check?". I leaned up against my elbow and saw a bouquet.
Not just any bouquet, a bouquet of the nicest smelling roses I had ever had the chance to take a whiff of , apart from the white rose which one of my best friends had given me a few months back. And the best thing? These roses were ant free and a sunny yellow in colour.
(I specify this because when I was young, I had once sniffed a rose and I'm pretty sure I inhaled an ant too at that point of time, along with pricking my finger.)
I looked at my mother in disbelief, and was about to ask her whether this was all a part of an elaborate prank on me, when she handed me a card.
It had my name on it.
My full name on it, with the correct spelling and congratulating me for my results.
They say that the smallest things have the capability to make you infinitely happy, and I realized how true the maxim was, yet once again.
The scent of petrichor and fresh roses had never smelled sweeter before.
Thank you so much for making me feel like a princess, Nayan Aunty ❤
