Chamela and Chameli
"Love is in the air!", they said.
It was a hot, April day and Chameli was blissfully sleeping in her cool room. After all, it had been a very tough day. The cruel, morose shopkeeper had woken her up twice and had offered her to her 'Kidnappers' at a very reasonable price of fifteen rupees that day but they had wrinkled her noses at her condition and had bought the foreign shuttlecocks. Yes. Chameli was a shuttlecock. A very beautiful one, though. She had a dress made up of green feathers with hints of yellow but the children did not buy her because she looked 'used'. But, that did not last very long. Her 'Kidnappers' had come again and this time, they slyly looked at her and bought her. It wasn't just her whom they bought, mind you, but, they also bought an equally colourful shuttlecock, called Chamela.
Chameli was glued to Chamela as the girls nonchalantly gossiped all the way to their building. It was Chamela who started the conversation. "How do you do? Remember me?" Of course she did. How could she ever forget that ravishing smile which he had? "Yes. As a matter of fact, I remember you very well. How do you do?" "Fine. Just a bit scared as to which one of us is going to die first." What? They were going to die? "Oh right. We are shuttlecocks. Our fates have been decided ever since when we were manufactured", Chameli said in a monotone.
Just when she had spoken her thoughts out, she was yanked out and whoosh! She was in the air! Her head was hit multiple times and each time she fell, one of her feathers would fall out. Chamela watched his beloved suffer in agony. She was battered and bruised and she did not look capable enough to go on for a longer time. He went to the 'Kidnappers' and pleaded them to use him instead of Chameli. The children reconsidered it for a while and they decided to play with Chamela.
The pain was unbearable but Chamela was ready to do anything for his Chameli. Chameli looked at him through moist eyes. Finally, Chamela was hit so hard, he flew over the boundary which the building shared with the airport.
And, Chameli joined him the next day.
The "Romeo and Juliet" of shuttlecocks.
