Culturally Handicapped
So, India has gained fame all around this now concrete square of a world as a super, multi-cultured country with diverse traditions and people. But, it is not possible for every Hindustani to know and adjust to the culture of a totally alien place within the country borders. And then, this is precisely what happens :
A family had recently shifted to Hyderabad and were absolutely unaware of the various traditions prevailing there. Their neighbours had a very chubby and cute baby of whom the family was very fond of. Ultimately, the baby had completed one year on this planet and it was his birthday. The neighbours had an extravaganza planned out for their little bundle of joy and so, they invited the family to the party. After an hour of listening to un-understandable Telugu, it was time to cut the cake and bless the baby. The baby's mother went around passing a bowl of yellow, uncooked rice to all the people for blessing the baby. That's when the unbelievable happened. The family's mother took the rice and popped it in her mouth! All in one go. Her daughter stood over there, aghast and replaying the scene over and over again. The crowd broke into bouts of laughter and appreciated the lady's unusual sense of humour. The good natured lady excused herself but she had, in her own way, added an amusing spark to the party. And, who was that lady? My very own, dearest Amma.
